Free trial
Once you connect Google, you can sort 25 photos or videos for free, with every Pro feature: search by location, shoot days, top footage, duplicate files, sharing and the shot list. You do not need to enter any payment details. Gemini runs on your own key during the trial too, and Google bills you directly; for 25 files that comes to a few cents.
At the top of the app you can see how many files the trial still covers. Every file Gemini looks at counts once per Google account. Files without a preview or with an error do not count. Once all 25 are used up, choose a plan to keep going. Everything sorted up to that point stays in your Drive, and you can still re-sort those files.
Create a Gemini key
Sorted uses Gemini by Google to recognise your photos and videos. For that you need your own key. It takes about two minutes.
- Open Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- Click “Create API key”. Pick an existing project or let Google create one for you.
- Copy the key. It starts with “AIza” or “AQ.”.
- Paste it into step 1 in Sorted. Sorted checks it right away and stores it encrypted in your own Drive, not with us.
Enable billing with Google
Without billing, your key uses the free tier of Gemini. That is enough to try things out, but it only allows a few requests per minute, so Sorted sorts more slowly. Also, on the free tier Google may use your inputs to improve its services; on the paid tier it may not.
- In Google AI Studio, open “Billing” in the left menu.
- Link a billing account with a payment method. You only pay for what you use.
- Ideally, set a budget with an alert there, for example €5 a month.
What does Gemini cost?
Gemini only sees a small preview image of each file. Based on Google’s price list for Gemini Flash Lite, that comes to around 70 cents per 1,000 files. Before every run, Sorted shows you the estimated cost, and at the top of the app you can see roughly how much you have used so far. Billing happens directly between you and Google.
Which folders should I pick?
Ideally the folder you throw everything into: phone uploads, shoot days or a client’s shared folder. Sorted includes subfolders automatically. Your originals stay where they are; Sorted creates a “Sortiert” folder next to them with shortcuts.
Disconnect Sorted and delete your data
In the app, at the very bottom of “Settings”: “Disconnect Sorted” deletes what Sorted has stored in your Drive and revokes access to your Google account. Your files and the folders under “Sortiert” stay in place. You can also remove access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
